Does Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto allow tattoos? In a private bath
The rooms are the reason to come: total-hinoki open-air tubs looking over the shrine roofs, and one sea-side suite with a half-open bath, a cold plunge and a sauna of its own.
The shared baths are closed to you. Asked in its own Q&A whether the large bath has any restrictions, the hotel answers that there are none by age or condition, but asks guests with tattoos, and guests in swimsuits, to refrain. What is left is a room: several types come with their own open-air bath in solid hinoki, and one suite adds a cold plunge and a sauna on the sea side. Book one of those and the shared-bath rule never reaches you.

Visit Hiroshima Tourist Pass One, two or three days on Hiroshima’s streetcars, including the line out to Miyajimaguchi, and the ferry across to the island. Slower than the JR train, and it covers the boat. Sold on Klook.

Best for: A hinoki bath of your own within three minutes of the shrine gate
The large bath is not a natural spring: the hotel labels it 活性石温泉, an artificial mineral bath certified under health-ministry rules. It does not say what the room baths run on, so treat them as tubs with a view rather than spring water. Guests in a room with an open-air bath get the Daikonya lounge and an 11:00 checkout instead of 10:00. The whole building is non-smoking. 55 rooms.
