Does Zaborin allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Fifteen villas in the birch woods and thirty baths: one indoor and one open-air hot spring in every suite, and no communal bath anywhere on the property.

Zaborin has no communal bath, so there is no rule to publish and nothing to negotiate. All fifteen villa suites hold two private onsen each, one indoor and one open-air, running free-flowing water from the ryokan’s own source. Whatever is on your skin, the bath is behind your own door.

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site — bath structure, not a tattoo policy. The hot spring and guest villa pages both state that every villa has its own indoor and open-air onsen.

Best for: A tattooed traveler who does not want the question raised at all

Fifteen villas, each with a private indoor bath and a private open-air bath, fed from Zaborin’s own spring roughly a kilometre underground and described by the house as gensen kakenagashi. Villas come in washitsu and yoshitsu configurations, some with an extra 12 sqm tatami room, and each is named after a winter kamon for a type of snow. About two hours by car from New Chitose Airport, with a complimentary shuttle to the Hanazono ski center in season.
