The bath
At Kainan, Tabibito no Yu is a Komeiseki artificial spring: water carrying minerals extracted from komeiseki, a natural ore. The hotel says it is smooth, doesn’t irritate the skin, and warms you to the core. A long tub sits under dark wood-grain walls and a black ceiling, facing a wide window onto a garden behind a bamboo fence, with lit shrubs in a bed of stones at the end.
The women’s bath has ReFa Fine Bubble U shower heads and a ReFa Beautech Dryer S+ at the vanity, and its changing room holds a women-only laundry with two washers, two dryers and a drum machine. The bath opens at 3 p.m. and closes at 2 a.m., then reopens from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The hotel
The upper grade of the chain, with 248 rooms and rooms for four on the upper floors. Breakfast is a buffet of more than 30 dishes at Restaurant Nagomi, 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.: ¥1,800 for adults and ¥1,000 for primary-school children, but free when you book on Route Inn’s own site. Parking ¥500 per 24 hours. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out 10 a.m.
