Toba View Hotel Hanashinju
鳥羽ビューホテル花真珠
Does Toba View Hotel Hanashinju allow tattoos? In a private bath
Hanashinju's sea-side rooms each have a big Shigaraki-ware kettle tub on the balcony above Toba Bay. The hotel says plainly that those tubs hold ordinary heated water, and its shared baths turn tattoos away even under a seal.
Hanashinju refuses bathers with tattoos in its baths, and says so even for tattoos covered by a seal. It has no private bath to book. The sea-side rooms with an open-air bath have a Shigaraki-ware kettle tub on the balcony, filled with ordinary heated water, not the spring.
The bath
The bath that matters here is in the room. The sea-side open-air bath rooms in the Hanaikada wing each have an original kettle tub made of Shigaraki ware, set on the balcony so you look down over Toba Bay from the water. The photo shows a deep, dark glazed tub beside a pale wooden post, with a bamboo fence and reed blinds around it. The hotel says each of these rooms is styled after a different flower. Two other room types have an indoor view bath with a window on the bay, among them the special room Hazuki, the one room of its kind. The hotel states in its FAQ and on each room listing that the room baths are not hot spring water, and that there is no private bath for hire.
The shared baths use water from Sakakibara Onsen, an alkaline spring the hotel calls a beauty bath. The Suigun-no-yu and Birei-no-yu view baths are open 5 to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to midnight, and the open-air bath, about ten meters above the ground, from 5 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 11 p.m. The women's side adds a rose bath, with roses bought from a farm. There is no sauna.
The hotel
A 44-room hotel on the Anrakujima hill whose rooms, apart from one small inner room, face the sea. The Hanaikada wing was fully renewed with the open-air and view-bath rooms and the special room Hazuki, which became a ReFa beauty room in January 2024. The Hanashinju wing has larger Japanese rooms. Dinner and breakfast are served in a dining room, or a private banquet room for bigger groups; the chef's kaiseki (a multi-course Japanese meal) uses Ise lobster and Matsusaka beef. Check-in 3 p.m. (last 6 p.m.), check-out 10 a.m.

Best for: a bay-view room with its own ceramic kettle tub on the balcony, accepting that the tub is not spring water
The hotel states twice that the baths in its rooms are not hot spring water. Room types with a bath in the renewed Hanaikada wing: the sea-side open-air bath rooms (10 mats, up to five, a Shigaraki-ware kettle tub on the balcony), the sea-side view-bath rooms (8 mats, up to four, an indoor bath with a window on the bay) and the one special room Hazuki (10 plus 4.5 mats with a living room, up to seven, a view bath). The FAQ says there is no private bath for hire and no sauna. Shared baths: the Suigun-no-yu and Birei-no-yu view baths and an open-air bath, with Sakakibara Onsen water; the rose bath is in the women's open-air bath only. All rooms have been non-smoking since June 18, 2026.
