Does Hakone Ginyu allow tattoos? In a private bath

Every room has a private open-air onsen bath on its terrace, with no restriction there. The ryokan publishes no tattoo rule for the two large baths, so treat those as unanswered.
The bath
Miyanoshita Onsen here is a salty, hot spring. Every one of the 20 rooms has an open-air bath on its own terrace facing the Hayakawa gorge, with an indoor bath or shower next door; the 1st-floor Tsuki rooms have a rock open-air bath with a jacuzzi among the trees. The two large baths, the ryokan’s mountain infinity baths, each have a stone bath, an open-air bath and a low-temperature sauna, and swap sides at 10 p.m. The GinyuSpa pavilion has its own private open-air bath, 30 minutes with a treatment, free to staying guests who book one; day visitors can add a bath to a treatment for ¥1,700, but the spa takes no bath-only visits.
The hotel
Twenty rooms at about 420 meters elevation, above the Hayakawa, 17 Japanese-style and three Western, with one maisonette. Rooms run from 68 m² on the 2nd and 3rd floors to 100 m² on the 1st and 4th. Breakfast and the monthly kaiseki dinner are served in each room's own dining room.
Good to know
- Tatami even in the corridors, and a 5th-floor bar counter cut from a single slab of pine that once stood in the garden.
- A steep driveway off Route 1. By bus, the Hakone Tozan bus from Hakone-Yumoto Station takes about 15 minutes to the Miyanoshita stop.
- Dinner is out. Book a GinyuSpa treatment and add a bath for ¥1,700. Bath-only visits aren’t taken.

The Hakone Tozan railway takes about 30 minutes up from Hakone-Yumoto.
