An 1883 Kowakidani ryokan where the private bath is free, unbooked, and locked from the inside, plus four cottages with their own open-air bath.
A free private half-open-air bath, no reservation needed, lock the door from inside. The ryokan's own site says so directly, alongside gender-separated shared baths whose tattoo policy is unpublished, but the private route makes that moot.
