Does Hanamaki Onsen Kashoen allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Kashoen puts its water at pH 8.9, slippery on the skin, and since 2023 a handful of its rooms fill a hinoki tub from that spring, with a big window that opens the bath to the air.

Kashoen rebuilt some rooms in 2022 and 2023 with a hinoki semi-open-air or open-air bath on the inn’s own spring, and those rooms are the answer. It publishes no tattoo rule for its large bath or its hinoki open-air bath. Book a room marked 温泉付き; the standard rooms have no spring bath.

Sendai is the door to all of these. Akiu is 43 minutes on one bus from the station, with no change. Nyuto is the Komachi, JR’s Shinkansen across to Akita, as far as Tazawako, then a bus of 47 minutes, about 2 h 20 in all. Naruko is twelve minutes on the Shinkansen to Furukawa and three quarters of an hour up the Rikuu East line. Zao is the Senzan line rapid over the mountains to Yamagata, then a bus of 37 minutes up to the ski village. Hanamaki is the Yamabiko to Kitakami, one stop on the local line and a bus, about 2 h 10. Higashiyama is the long one: the Shinkansen to Koriyama, the Ban-etsu West line over to Aizu-Wakamatsu and the loop bus, nearly four hours with the waits, and easier from Tokyo. How we know

Confirmed from official site (Kashoen rooms page, 半露天風呂付きツイン) — bath structure, not a tattoo policy

Best for: A hinoki tub of pH 8.9 spring water in your own room

Room types with a spring bath: hinoki semi-open-air Japanese room (12 mats, December 2022), hinoki semi-open-air twin (February 2023), open-air bath with living room, open-air Japanese-Western room, and the Crown Suite and Royal Suite. The shared baths are Torotoro-no-yu and a hinoki open-air bath, 13:00 to 11:00; the inn gives its water as pH 8.9. The group site was crawled in full (500 URLs) and mentions tattoos nowhere.
