Miharuya
伊豆熱川 自家源泉 おもてなしの宿 みはるや
Does Miharuya allow tattoos? In a private bath
Miharuya has ten rooms, its own spring and a front door one minute from Izu-Atagawa Station. After dinner its open-air rock bath stops being shared and is handed to one party at a time, free.
The inn publishes no tattoo rule. It has two private baths that cost nothing: an open-air rock bath, reserved for private use from 7:40 p.m. until 7 the next morning in 35-minute turns, and a detached bath called Hanare, 50 minutes by reservation. Several of its ten rooms also have a cypress half-open-air tub fed from the inn’s own spring.
The bath
Two baths can be had privately, and neither costs anything. The first is Nangoku Noten-buro, an open-air rock bath whose name means the southern-country outdoor bath. It is a men's bath from 3 to 6:30 p.m. and a women's bath from 7 to 9:30 a.m.; in between, from 7:40 p.m. to 7 a.m., it is let to one party at a time for 35 minutes. You ask at the front desk on the day, and the inn gives out times in the order guests checked in. The second is Hanare, a private bath in a quiet spot a little apart from the main building, reserved for 50 minutes between 3 and 10 p.m.
Of the ten rooms, several have a cypress half-open-air tub filled from the inn's own spring. The larger ones hold two adults, and you set the temperature with the tap.
The shared halls, Funto-no-yu and Seseragi-no-yu, are open from 3 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. and change over at 11 p.m. Between them they have large tubs, a lukewarm tub, a tub with charcoal and a lie-down bath. The water is a sulfate spring that the inn lists for nerve pain, rheumatism and women's complaints. A steam bath that uses the heat of the spring costs ¥2,000 for 40 minutes, from 3 to 8 p.m.
The hotel
A ten-room inn that calls itself a house of hospitality, in a four-story building beside Izu-Atagawa Station. Rooms are Japanese style, some with a twin bedroom attached, and those with a cypress half-open-air bath are the top category. The inn draws on its own spring for every bath. Phone reception is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It stands just across the road to the left of the station exit.
