Futari no Yuyado Yubana Mankai
ふたりの湯宿 湯花満開
Does Futari no Yuyado Yubana Mankai allow tattoos? In a private bath
Yubana Mankai did away with the big shared bath and built six private ones instead, three open to the sea air on the fourth floor and three indoors, all free and all fed from the well on its own grounds.
The inn answers the tattoo question in its FAQ with a yes. It has no men’s or women’s hall at all, only six private baths that lock from the inside, so you never share water with another guest. All six are free and need no reservation.

The bath
Every bath here is private. The inn says it dropped the usual men's and women's halls so that two people could bathe together without anyone else around, and built six baths that each lock from the inside. If a door is open you walk in; there is no booking and no charge, and the inn asks guests to keep to about 40 minutes.
The three on the fourth floor are open-air and named for Shinto gods. Amaterasu is a square wooden tub in a dark timber room with a round window on the sea. Daimonji has a dry sauna attached. Seigetsu is styled on a blue full moon. They open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. and from 5 to 9:30 a.m. The three on the first floor opened in July 2018 and are named for flowers: Sakura has a half-round tub and a tatami rest space, Nanohana has two round tubs side by side facing the courtyard green, and Ajisai is a lie-down bath of green Towada stone. Those open from 3 p.m. to midnight and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m.
All six use the inn's own source without heating, filtering or recirculation. Because the spring comes up very hot, about 10 percent fresh water is added when a tub is refilled.
The hotel
A small inn aimed at couples, beside the river mouth at Atagawa. Rooms run from Japanese rooms and modern twins, refitted in December 2022, to suites with their own spring baths: sea-view rooms with an open-air tub, three Cocoon Suites with a half-open-air tub and meals served in the room, and a suite added in December 2023. Other guests eat at the Take-no-ma dining room, where the standard dinner brings spiny lobster, golden-eye snapper and turban shell. The whole building is non-smoking. Check-in is 3 p.m., last check-in 9 p.m., check-out 10 a.m.

Getting there
From Tokyo Station the Odoriko limited express reaches Izu-Atagawa Station in about 2 hours 10 minutes. The alternative is the Kodama Shinkansen to Atami, about 50 minutes, then about 70 minutes on the Ito and Izukyu lines. The inn is about 4 minutes on foot from the station, and it runs a pickup between 2:30 and 5 p.m. on request. Drivers should follow the road past the dried-fish shop down to the sea and turn left along the shore; the lanes behind are very narrow.
Izu-Atagawa STN · Izukyu Line (Odoriko limited express from Tokyo)
