蓮花の湯 fills two floors at ground level, seven minutes’ walk from Kyoto Station: nine tubs, from a 44°C pot bath to a 38°C cypress bath kept in low light upstairs, with a 13°C cold bath between them.
Refused in principle, but the chain provides cover seals at properties that stock them — two per guest, in three sizes: 8.5×10.5 cm (3.3×4.1 in), 10×14 cm (3.9×5.5 in) and 11.8×17.2 cm (4.6×6.8 in). If the seals cover it, you can bathe. Ask at the desk when you check in rather than at the bath door: the chain says stocks are limited, and it words the promise as “depending on the facility”.

Tatami throughout, shoes off at the entrance. The ground floor holds a cypress bath at 42°C, a single-person tub at 44, a silky bath, a rock bath, a half-open-air bath, a dry sauna and a 13°C cold bath; up a flight of stairs there is a second cypress bath kept at 38°C in low light, which the hotel calls the meditation bath.
