The bath
A corridor with a round lattice window above a strip of lit garden leads in. The tub is tiled in small dark mosaic under a granite rim, with stone-textured walls and a planting of bamboo and rocks along one side. Both sides have a 90°C sauna and a 14°C cold bath, temperatures drifting with the weather outside, with ReFa shower heads and showers that switch between overhead, body and foot jets. Face towels are stacked in the changing room; bath towels come from your room. A rest area has vending machines and a coin foot massager. Free to guests, 6 to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Children in diapers may use it once the diaper comes off.
The hotel
Vessel pitches this one at families: the free loans and amenities extend to children, and breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet with obanzai (Kyoto home-style dishes). A multistory parking garage holds 28 cars at ¥2,000 a night, first come, first served, from 2 p.m. on the day of arrival to 11 a.m. the next morning.
