Ogoto Onsen, Otsu — twenty minutes from Kyoto Station, on Lake Biwa Lakeside ryokan with rooms with their own open-air bath

Does Satoyu Mukashibanashi Yuzanso allow tattoos? Yes, covered

Cover seal required

A lakeside ryokan at Ogoto Onsen, nineteen minutes from Kyoto on the Kosei line, with Lake Biwa below the large bath, rooms that carry an open-air bath of their own, and a free pick-up from Ogoto-Onsen station.

The large bath is closed to tattooed guests, and then the ryokan writes an exception in its own FAQ that this site has not seen in these words anywhere else: out of respect for other countries’ cultures, an overseas guest may buy a cover seal at the ryokan’s shop and bathe if it hides the work. Read the condition strictly — it has to be hidden, so this is an answer for a small piece and not for a sleeve. For anything larger, book a room with an open-air bath of its own.

The operator’s own wording. Showing it settles the question.

How we know

Confirmed Confirmed from official site (the ryokan's own FAQ)

Read on: yuzanso.co.jp/faq/

Best for: A small piece under a seal you can buy at the desk — or your own bath

Buy the seal when you check in, not at the bath door. The ryokan also warns of seven or eight steps down from the dressing room to the water, and suggests a room with its own bath to anyone who would rather not take them. There is a free pick-up from Ogoto-Onsen station.
