Asagiri no Yu, on the thirteenth and top floor: radon spring water tankered from Shijonawate, and a rock open-air bath from which, on a clear day, the hotel says you may see Abeno Harukas.

Tattoos are allowed if up to two cover seals hide them completely. The chain's seals come in three sizes up to 11.8 cm × 17.2 cm (4.6 × 6.8 in), and stock is limited, so ask at the front desk when you check in, or bring your own.

The bath

The bath is on the thirteenth floor, themed on nature and Japanese tradition: rough boulders, standing stone pillars and green bamboo, with latticed windows. Radon water trucked from Shijonawate fills the indoor tub, and the outdoor rock bath is half open to the air with the city at a distance. Both sides have a two-level dry sauna with a TV, a chilled cold tub framed by rocks and chairs outdoors for cooling off. Hours were recently stretched to 3 p.m. through 10 a.m., saunas off 1 to 5 a.m. A lounge with massage chairs looks over central Minami, with free ice cream in the evening and a probiotic drink early in the morning, and a coin laundry corner by the bath.

The hotel

Doubles and Hollywood twins of about 16 m², twins of 22 to 23 m², and a 23.6 m² deluxe queen on an Airweave bed; the rest sleep on Serta. Rooms have a shower booth rather than a tub. Breakfast costs ¥2,500, and the local dish here is kushikatsu, Osaka’s deep-fried skewers. Free late-night ramen runs 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the HATAGO restaurant on the second floor.
