Toba Grand Hotel

Does Toba Grand Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath
Toba Grand Hotel keeps one private open-air bath on its bay side, a rock pool fenced in bamboo under a timber roof, booked ahead in 40-minute slots. Three special rooms come with an open-air bath of their own.
Toba Grand Hotel publishes no tattoo rule on its own site, so do not count on the shared baths. Its private open-air bath, fenced in bamboo above the bay, is booked ahead for 40 minutes, and three special rooms have an open-air bath of their own.
The bath
The private open-air bath looks straight out over the bay from inside a bamboo fence. The hotel's photo shows a rock-edged pool of flat stones under a timber roof hung with wire lanterns, a glass rail and green treetops between it and the water. It is reserved ahead, 40 minutes for ¥3,300, from 3:30 to 11:30 p.m. and from 6 to 10 a.m. The hotel says it has you to yourself with the whole bay in view.
Three special rooms have an open-air bath of their own. Two of them, named for the sound of the waves and the quiet sea, are Japanese-Western rooms of 56 square meters for two to four guests, with the bath outside and the bay in front. Shijimayo, in black tones, is a room for two with both a sauna and an open-air bath, which the hotel pitches as a place to listen to the waves. The hotel does not say whether the private bath or the room tubs carry spring water.
The shared baths are the Umikaze open-air bath on the bay side and the view baths Sokai for men and Aoshio for women, with a cold plunge of room-temperature water. They are open 5 to 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to midnight.
The hotel
A 73-room hotel on the Ohama shore in which every room faces the sea. Beyond the special rooms there are the Manpaku and Sakura floors and Japanese rooms, some of them taking pets for a fee. Breakfast is a buffet in a hall or the restaurant; dinner can be in your room, a hall or the restaurant buffet. The hotel has a lounge, karaoke and a shop. Check-in is 3 p.m., last 8 p.m.; check-out is 11 a.m., or noon in the two open-air bath special rooms.
