The bath
Route Inn calls it Tabibito no Yu, the traveller’s bath, and here it is a radium artificial hot spring: mains water softened with a government-approved bath additive, colourless and odourless, which the chain credits with softening the water and easing stiffness and fatigue. Separate men’s and women’s baths, open 15:00 to 02:00 and 05:00 to 10:00. The women’s side has ReFa Fine Bubble shower heads and a ReFa dryer. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and emulsion on both sides; cleansing oil, brushes and cotton for women, shaving foam, combs and razors for men.
The hotel
The Grand grade of the chain, 199 rooms, two minutes from exit A4 of Asakusabashi STN on the Toei Asakusa line and four from the JR Sobu line’s east exit. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00. Rooms have a humidifying air purifier, free Wi-Fi and WOWOW; smoking corners are on the first and twelfth floors, which tells you the building’s height.
Breakfast is a buffet at KUROHIGE, 07:00 to 09:00, 1,800 yen for adults, with croissants baked on the premises.

Route Inn sets this once for the whole group — Route Inn, Grand, Ark and Grand Vrio alike — and states it plainly: tattooed guests may not bathe unless the tattoo is completely covered with a cover seal. The seal it sells at every front desk is 11.4×20 cm, the largest allowance of any hotel chain on this site, and no maximum number is published. The chain adds the limit itself: a tattoo too extensive to cover is refused, so a forearm piece passes and a sleeve does not.
Because it is a chain rule, every Route Inn with a daiyokujo works the same way, which makes the chain the reliable budget option in a city where policy otherwise changes at every door. The seal is bought at the desk, so buy it at check-in.
