Does Toya Kanko Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath
Epere and Yuku were cut out of the hotel’s old women’s bath, which left them far bigger than a private bath needs to be, and a day visitor can rent either one for fifty minutes.
Nothing about tattoos appears anywhere on this hotel’s site, including its FAQ, so the panorama bath and the cave bath are an unanswered question. The answer it does publish is two cypress-lined kashikiri rooms in the basement, each with an indoor tub and its own small open-air one, rented by the room for fifty minutes. A day visitor can book one without staying the night, which is rare in this town.

Best for: Renting a private cypress bath for fifty minutes without booking a room
The two kashikiri rooms are named Epere and Yuku, Ainu for bear cub and Ezo deer, and were converted from the old women’s bath, which is why they are oversized. Slots start on the hour for Epere and on the half hour for Yuku, from 13:00 to 24:30. Staying guests pay 4,000 yen for 50 minutes per room, day visitors 5,000 yen, and either price drops 1,000 yen before 16:00. Two taps in each washing area. Bring towels from your room; the baths do not stock them. Ordinary day-use bathing is 1,000 yen for adults, 13:00–21:00, or 700 yen for the 7:00–9:30 morning session in the panorama bath only, and the hotel halves the price if you show a receipt from any restaurant around the lake.
