Does Midori no Yado Bansyoukaku allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Bansyoukaku doesn’t publish a tattoo policy, so book a hot-spring room or one of its two private baths. Twenty-one of its 50 rooms have their own tub, fully free-flowing.

The inn publishes no tattoo rule for its large bath or its open-air baths.

The bath

Twenty-one rooms have their own free-flowing bath: five deluxe rooms with a semi-open-air bath, three rooms with an open-air bath, the Hikobae room with an open-air bath looking down on the town, three modern twin rooms with an indoor bath, and nine rooms in the Shozan wing with a semi-open-air bath. On Shozan’s 4th floor the tub is a rock bath with a view. You can pick the type but not the room.

The two private baths, Yatagarasu-no-yu with a round tub and Iroha-no-yu with a square one, use the same water as the large baths. Each costs ¥2,750 for 45 minutes, 3 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Slots go first come, first served.

The inn adds no water and no heat. The large bath hall, Shobuyu, has a sauna and cold plunge on each side, and each side has its own open-air bath. These are shared baths with no published tattoo rule.

The hotel

The inn opened in 1930 and has 50 rooms in four wings. The other 29 rooms have an ordinary bath or a shower only. Check-in is 3 p.m., last check-in 7 p.m., and checkout 10 a.m. Dinner is served 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in two dining rooms with tables. Parking is free for 100 cars. Bathing tax is ¥150 per adult.
