Tomiya
湯村温泉 とみや
Does Tomiya allow tattoos? In a private bath
The ryokan publishes no tattoo policy for its shared baths, so book a room with a bath. Three room types have an open-air bath fed from the ryokan’s own source.
The ryokan publishes no tattoo policy for its shared baths. Its own booking page sells three room types with an open-air bath fed from the source.
The bath
Three room types come with an open-air bath on the ryokan’s own source: a 12-mat Japanese room, a 16-mat Japanese room and a Superior room with both beds and tatami mats. All three are non-smoking. A fourth room, Tsuki no Akari, also has an open-air bath, but the booking page doesn’t say its water is from the source.
Tomiya has a source of its own, which the ryokan calls its greatest asset. The shared baths include a large bath with a view over the town.
The hotel
A long-established ryokan on high ground at the foot of Tenjinyama, above the town, run by a fisheries company on the Sea of Japan coast. The kitchen serves the day’s catch from there.
Good to know
- Check the room name when you book. The three source-fed rooms have “gensen”, source, in their Japanese names.
- On the hill, not the main street. The view over Yumura is the reward.
