Does Choyo Resort Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath
The two large baths here are named for what you hear in them, Tori-no-koe for birdsong and Kawa-no-sasayaki for the river, and they run both of Sounkyo’s waters, the white cloudy one and the red-brown one. Underneath them, on B1, four private rooms take the same water fifty minutes at a time.
Nothing on this hotel’s site says anything about tattoos, in either direction, so the shared baths are an unknown and should be treated as one. What the hotel does publish is four private baths in the basement spa wing it calls Iyashidokoro Yururu, open 15:00 to 22:50 with last reception at 22:00, 3,300 yen for fifty minutes for a room of two to four people, filled with the same spring water as the large baths. That is the answer here: book a turn at the desk and the question never comes up.

Four private rooms, each for two to four people, on B1. Staying guests pay 3,300 yen for fifty minutes; day visitors pay the same 3,300 yen plus 500 yen a head entry and can only take the 15:00 or 16:00 slot. There are steps into both the large baths and the private baths, which the hotel states plainly in its accessibility answer. A free shuttle runs between this hotel and its sister house Choyotei so guests can bathe at both in house clothes; it stops when Choyotei closes for the season.
