Tenninkyo Onsen, at the end of the road in the gorge Ryokan ★★★☆☆

Onyado Shikishimaso

御やど しきしま荘

Does Onyado Shikishimaso allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Tenninkyo used to have three hotels and now has this one, eighteen rooms at the end of a gorge road, with two suites whose half-open-air tubs are filled straight from the source.

The inn publishes no tattoo rule, and its two large baths, a wooden one and a stone one that swap between men and women, should be treated as unanswered. Two of its four room types settle it another way: the Premium Japanese-Western Suite and the Corner Suite both come with a half-open-air bath fed straight from the source, in the room, for you alone. Book one of those and the gorge bath is yours.

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site — bath structure, not a tattoo policy (the two suite types on the inn’s own room list are labeled 源泉掛け流し半露天風呂付)

Best for: A gorge room with its own source-fed tub at the far end of a valley that has almost nothing left in it

Eighteen rooms. The two room types with a bath are the 源泉掛け流し半露天風呂付 特別和洋室 (26 m², up to four) and the 源泉掛け流し半露天風呂付 コーナー特別室 (26 m², up to five); the plain Japanese-Western and Japanese rooms have none. Spring type is magnesium-calcium-sodium sulfate, bicarbonate and chloride, and the inn publishes a metasilicic acid reading of 202.6 mg/L measured in June 2025. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00. Hagoromo Falls is about fifteen minutes on foot. Day bathing runs but closes on scattered dates, which the inn posts in its news column. Reached from Asahikawa Station by the number 66 Asahikawa Denki Kido bus, about ninety minutes, with a pickup from Asahidake Gensui Koen-mae that has to be arranged in advance.
