Does Misasakan allow tattoos? In a private bath

Misasakan spreads its bathing over a 1,000-tsubo Japanese garden, and the inn writes down, in its own FAQ, exactly which of those tubs a tattooed guest may use.

Misasakan answers the question in its own FAQ and answers it twice. Any tattoo, whatever its size, is refused at the large baths, and in the same sentence the inn points a tattooed guest at its onsen-fed rooms and its reservable open-air bath. The reservable bath, Gyokuraku, runs in 45-minute turns on the hour, from 6:00 to 8:00 and again from 15:00 to 23:00, and turns are claimed same-day by phone from 10:00. Book an onsen room and the question never comes up at all.

JR Sanyo-San’in Area Pass Seven days on JR West trains across both coasts for 23,000 yen, with reserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Hakata and on the Yakumo limited express from Okayama to Matsue. Best for: A traveler who wants a garden ryokan and is willing to pay for a room with its own spring water

The FAQ names the room types whose tubs carry onsen water: the Concept Rooms, Suite Room Mizuki and the Betsutei Rin annex. Outdoor sections of the large baths and the reservable bath are pure source flow; the indoor large bath mixes source flow with filtered recirculation. Day-use bathing has been dropped, so the baths serve overnight guests only. The bathing tax is ¥150 a night on top of the room rate.
