Does Hotel Mahoroba allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Thirty-one tubs across two basement floors, drawing four different springs, is what Mahoroba sells; the quieter fact is the half-dozen suites upstairs with a marble tub of sulfur water on the balcony.

Mahoroba’s thirty-one tubs are the largest bath complex in the town and the hotel publishes no rule about who may get into them, so the answer here is the suite floor instead. Six suite types, all 64 square meters, each carry a marble open-air tub fed with the sulfur spring, and the hotel describes them as 源泉露天風呂付客室 without any condition attached. Book one of those and the shared halls become optional.

How we know

Best for: A marble open-air tub of sulfur water on your own balcony, in the hotel with the town’s biggest shared bath

The six suites are named for trees: 槐 Enjyu (4 rooms), 櫟 Kunugi (4), 槿 Mukuge (1), 楓 Kaede (1), 楡 Nire (4) and 楢 Nara. All are non-smoking and 64 square meters. The main bath runs 14:00–03:00 and 04:00–09:30, with the 03:00–04:00 hour closed for cleaning and the men’s and women’s sides swapped. The hotel has 398 rooms in total, so the suite floor is a small part of a very large building. Mahoroba belongs to the Toho Resort group along with Park Hotel Miyabitei and Ryotei Hanayura in the same town.
