Does Candeo Hotels Tokyo Shimbashi allow tattoos? Yes!
Tattoos are welcome in the sky spa, with nothing to cover. The hotel told us so by phone in September 2026, though its own spa page still says otherwise.
No restrictions. In April 2024 the hotel announced it was dropping the rule, but its sky spa page still asks tattooed guests to use a cover seal. We called in September 2026 and were told there is no restriction. The page is out of date, not the notice.
The bath
The sky spa is on the roof. The open-air bath looks out over the Shimbashi office skyline, quiet in the early morning, sunny through the atrium by day, and lit up at night. Beside it is a large indoor tub with room to stretch out, and enough shower booths that nobody lines up. The men's side has a dry sauna and a cold plunge; the women's has a mist sauna. Privacy film on the glass means the view runs one way.
It's open from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m. the next morning, with the saunas closed from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Guests only, and free. Candeo's own organic shampoo and conditioner are laid out, and the women's powder room has makeup remover, lotion and emulsion.
The hotel
A self-rated four-star business hotel at 3-6-8 Shimbashi, four minutes from Shimbashi Station and ten from Tokyo Station. The rooms are small in the Candeo way: a 15 to 17 m² Double on a 1.5-meter bed, an 18 m² Twin, a 17 m² King on a 2.2-meter Simmons bed, and a 20 m² Corner Twin that takes three. Every room has the chain's raised-platform sofa, and most have a desk. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 11 a.m.
Breakfast is the chain's broad buffet. There's a guest laundry, and the rental list runs from a choice of three pillows to a humidifier, an iron and a phone charger. Haneda is about 25 minutes away by train, Narita about 75.
Good to know
- A rooftop open-air bath in Shimbashi on a business-hotel rate, a short walk from a Yamanote line station.
- Room wear is provided, so you can go up to the spa without dressing for it. There are no towels up there, so carry one from your room.
- Two rules on one website. The spa page still asks for a cover seal; the hotel told us by phone that there’s no restriction. See the note below.
Getting there
Shimbashi is the practical station for Ginza, the Yamanote line and the Yurikamome out to the bay, and the hotel is a short walk from it. Tokyo Station is ten minutes by train.

No restrictions.
Two rules on one website. In April 2024 the hotel published a notice saying the sky spa's restriction on body art and tattoos was abolished. Its sky spa page today still says to cover tattoos before entering, with covers available at the front desk. In September 2026 the hotel told us by phone that there is no restriction, and that answer is the one this page rests on. If your tattoo is large and you'd rather not argue at the desk, ask the hotel before you book.
Best for: a late arrival or an early flight, with a rooftop soak either way
Listed as cover-up until September 7, 2026, because the hotel's own sky spa page still carries the seal wording its 2024 notice abolished. Asked directly, the hotel said the notice is the one that stands. If the front desk ever quotes the page to you, the notice is theirs too.
