The bath

The two sides are decorated rather than designed, and not decorated the same way. The men's bath has pine-tree artwork. The women's has Japanese umbrellas, a checkered tile floor, and windows cut to look like yuki-mi shoji, the sliding screens made to be opened a little to watch snow fall.

It's on the 2nd floor. No sauna, no open-air side, and the water is heated rather than drawn from a spring.

Open 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., free to guests, with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, cotton swabs and dryers laid out. Towels come from your room.

The hotel

A four-star by its own account, and the more theatrical of the two Ginza hotels. The design theme is Kabuki, carried from the lobby through to the mosaics in the baths. Rooms take up to three and are compact by the group's standards: an 18.5 m² Standard with a queen bed, and 34.6 m² Deluxe rooms as twins or triples. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 11 a.m.

SHARI HIGASHIGINZA on the 2nd floor, the same floor as the bath, does modern Japanese cooking and kuroge wagyu teppanyaki (cooked on an iron griddle) in the evening. At breakfast you choose a Japanese or Western main.

Good to know

Getting there

The location is the point. Higashi-Ginza is a minute away on the Hibiya and Toei Asakusa lines, Ginza Station is four minutes on the Ginza and Marunouchi lines, and Yurakucho and Shimbashi are about 15 minutes on foot. You're inside Ginza rather than near it, with the Yamanote line walkable in two directions.

Ginza station is four minutes on the Ginza and Marunouchi lines; Yurakucho and Shimbashi about eleven on foot. Haneda roughly thirty minutes by Keikyu; Narita about an hour and fifteen by Narita Express to Yurakucho.
