Okubo, Shinjuku-ku: 5 min from Shin-Okubo Neighborhood bathhouse (sento)

Mannenyu

万年湯

Does Mannenyu allow tattoos? Yes!

Nothing to cover

Tattoos are welcome here, with nothing to cover. The bathhouse says so on its own front page.

The sentence sits on the bathhouse's own front page with no size limit. The same notice lists who is turned away, and tattoos aren't on it: strong body odor, a contagious skin condition, anyone who can't bathe alone and has nobody with them, and behavior that bothers other bathers.

The bath

Five tubs, all on softened water. The hot one is a silk bath. Beside it are a medium-temperature bath, a jet bath, an electric bath and a cold bath, and one tub changes its additive every month.

Open 3 p.m. to midnight, last entry 11:30 p.m., closed Saturdays. Adults pay ¥600, children ¥200 and preschoolers ¥100. Body soap and a rinse-in shampoo are at the showers, your first rental face towel is free, and a bath towel is ¥200, so you can walk in with nothing. The dryer takes ¥20 for three minutes.

Best for: a cheap soak within walking distance of Shinjuku, with nothing to cover

A neighborhood bathhouse on heated soft water, not a hot spring.

The map shows every hotel close by. We haven’t checked their tattoo rules: sleep there, bathe here. Search Booking.com instead

Booking through this link costs you nothing extra and earns us a small commission, which keeps this guide free and up to date for our tattoo community. Thanks for your support.
