Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwanoha
三井ガーデンホテル柏の葉
Does Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwanoha allow tattoos? Yes!
Tattoos are welcome in the 3rd-floor hot spring, with nothing to cover. No seal and no size limit.
The hotel's own bath page says it has dropped its limits on body art and tattoos, with no condition on size or placement.
The bath
The water here is brown. Not murky, but translucent, the color of weak tea, and it smells faintly of minerals as you get in. It's a real onsen, drawn undiluted from a source on the hotel's own grounds, which none of the group's other Tokyo baths can say.
The hotel publishes the analysis: a strong-salt spring at 40.6°C, flowing at 300 liters a minute. Salt springs hold their heat, and you'll still feel it an hour after you're dressed.
It sits on the 3rd floor and is built to look sideways rather than down. The indoor bath faces a glass wall onto a small enclosed courtyard planted thick with green, so the light comes in low and natural. The open-air bath sits out among the planting. Both sides have a mist sauna, which is gentler than a dry room if heat isn't your thing.
Free to guests, with towels from your room. Mornings run 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The hotel
Self-rated four-star, and the only hotel in the group with a natural hot spring rather than heated water. Rooms take up to four: a 21.4 m² Standard with a queen bed on floors three to six, a 45.3 m² Executive twin on floors five and six, and 40.6 m² serviced apartments on the 7th floor for stays of a week or more. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 11 a.m.
Comesta, the ground-floor Italian restaurant, cooks to a local-sourcing idea: Chiba vegetables served as bagna cauda at the breakfast buffet, pizza from a stone oven, and a Kashiwa turnip potage as the house specialty. A free fitness room on the 3rd floor is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the hotel has meeting rooms, which tells you who else stays here.
Good to know
- Confirm the bath hours at the front desk. The hotel’s own pages disagree: the bath page says 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., the front page 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- An amenity bar on the ground floor for whatever you forgot, and ion dryers in the changing rooms.
- Open-air bath and mist sauna on both sides. Plus an indoor bath looking onto a planted courtyard rather than a wall.
- Straight out of the west exit of Kashiwanoha Campus Station, on the Tsukuba Express from Akihabara.
Getting there
Kashiwanoha is a planned district built around a university campus rather than a town with a center, so the hotel is the destination rather than a base for wandering.
Kashiwanoha Campus STN · Tsukuba Express
2 minutes from the West Exit. It's about 30 minutes from Akihabara.
Rapid trains do not stop at Kashiwanoha Campus, so take a local or section-rapid service. Narita is about an hour; Haneda is 70–100 minutes by limousine bus.

Best for: anyone who wants a real onsen without leaving the Tokyo area, about 35 minutes from Akihabara
Farthest out of the Tokyo listings.
One warning before you book. There is a separate hotel called Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwanoha Park Side, and it is not this one. Only this property has the hot spring. The booking link on this page was checked against the listing itself, which shows the hot spring and the Campus Station address. Search the name yourself and the two come up side by side.
