The bath
A men’s and a women’s daiyokujo, the chain’s standard large bath, and the hotel’s own pitch for it is the hours: 15:00 to 02:00 and again 05:00 to 10:00, so a late arrival and an early start both get in. The women’s side is fitted with ReFa Fine Bubble shower heads and a ReFa dryer. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and emulsion are laid out on both sides, with cleansing oil, brushes and cotton on the women’s and shaving foam, combs and razors on the men’s. Scales and dryers in both.
The hotel
Route Inn’s Grand grade, its upper one, with 209 rooms two minutes from exit 2 of Toyocho STN on the Tokyo Metro Tozai line. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00. Every room has a humidifying air purifier, free Wi-Fi and free WOWOW on the television, and the front desk is staffed around the clock.
Breakfast is a buffet at Maguro Dining Mikura, 07:00 to 09:00, with croissants baked in the restaurant and a changing selection of European breads; the same restaurant serves dinner, and there is an izakaya, a banquet room and meeting rooms — this is a hotel built for the business traveller, and it says so.
What is good about it

Getting there
Toyocho is four stops east of Otemachi on the Tozai line, on the Koto side of the Sumida. It is an office district with a subway station rather than a place to visit, which is why the rate is what it is.

Route Inn sets this once for the whole group — Route Inn, Grand, Ark and Grand Vrio alike — and states it plainly: tattooed guests may not bathe unless the tattoo is completely covered with a cover seal. The seal it sells at every front desk is 11.4×20 cm, the largest allowance of any hotel chain on this site, and no maximum number is published. The chain adds the limit itself: a tattoo too extensive to cover is refused, so a forearm piece passes and a sleeve does not.
Because it is a chain rule, every Route Inn with a daiyokujo works the same way, which makes the chain the reliable budget option in a city where policy otherwise changes at every door. The seal is bought at the desk, so buy it at check-in.
