JR East Pass Covers the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo to Niigata and the JR Limited Express Inaho on to Tsuruoka. The Shonai Kotsu bus from Tsuruoka to Yunohama Onsen is a local line and is paid separately.

Not that a search reaches. What three of the town's inns publish instead is a private bath — a reservable kashikiri-buro, or a room with its own en-suite hot-spring tub — which settles the question without needing a policy at all.

The Joetsu Shinkansen to Niigata, about 2 hours, then the JR Limited Express Inaho to Tsuruoka, about 1 h 50, then a Shonai Kotsu bus, about 50 minutes. About 4 h 45 door to door; there is no train station at Yunohama itself.
