Admitted, in the operator’s own words. The FAQ answers the tattoo question with a flat yes, and adds that the front desk sells cover stickers for anyone who would rather not be seen. Nothing has to be covered to get in, which makes this the only bathing house in Hiroshima city we found saying so on its own site.

Best for: Any amount of ink, at any hour, with a cold bath and a hinoki sauna

Open 24 hours. The second floor is a mixed hinoki sauna floor where swimwear is worn, with rooms at roughly 70, 80 and 90°C, herbal aroma rounds, an 8K screen, Coleman infinity chairs and a cold bath. The third floor is lockable private rooms with their own sauna, shower, changing space and powder room, around 70°C, with seven aromas and self-service herb steam. Towels, wear, sauna mats and toiletries are included. No parking. Bookings run through Hot Pepper Beauty.

The sky spa page tells guests with tattoos to use a tattoo cover seal. It names no size and no count, and it does not say the hotel supplies them, so bring your own and ask at the desk when you check in. This is the property’s own line, not a Candeo group rule: other Candeo sky spas dropped the restriction outright and this one did not.

Best for: A late open-air soak over the Hiroshima rooftops with a small tattoo taped over

Sky spa on the top floor, open 15:00 to 11:00 the next morning, with the saunas shut 02:00 to 06:00. Men get a dry sauna, women a mist sauna. Open-air bath and a wide indoor tub; the hotel names no spring and publishes no analysis, so treat it as heated tap water. The lobby is on the 13th floor. A day-use program runs on separate hours and fees.

The bath page refuses tattoos and then names the way in: two cover seals of about 10 by 15 centimeters. If the ink fits under two sheets that size you may bathe. The page does not say the hotel sells or lends them, so carry your own.

Best for: Two seals’ worth of ink and a quiet soak facing a small interior garden

Open 15:00 to 01:00 and 06:00 to 10:00. No sauna. The tub faces a tsuboniwa courtyard through a window. The women’s changing room is behind a keypad and the day’s code is given at check-in. The page names no spring, so treat it as heated tap water. Intergate Kanazawa publishes the same two-seal allowance at the same size.

APA Hotel Hiroshima-Ekimae Ohashi

APA refuses tattooed bathers and then sells the exception: if the ink fits under two of the company’s own point tattoo cover seals, 10 by 12 centimeters each, you may use the bath. Overnight guests get two seals free at the front desk per person per night, handed over one night at a time, and you collect them each time you go down. Day-spa visitors buy theirs.

Best for: Two palm-sized tattoos and an open-air tub a few minutes from the Shinkansen platforms

The property lists 大浴殿・露天風呂 among its facilities, along with banquet rooms, the restaurants La Veranda and Hiroshima no Kaze, and a Lawson. The seal rule has run since 19 March 2019 and the same page says a tattoo too wide for two seals is refused. The hotel names no spring on its own page.

APA Hotel Hiroshima-Ekimae Shinkansenguchi

The same APA rule governs here: refused unless two company seals of 10 by 12 centimeters cover the ink. Front desks give overnight guests two free per person per night. There is no open-air tub at this house, so the whole bath is the one indoor room.

Best for: A covered tattoo and a bath you can reach in a couple of minutes off the Shinkansen

The property page lists a restaurant, the large bath and a coin laundry. No open-air bath and no spring named. The address here is taken from the Booking.com listing, which reads Higashi-ku Kamiosugacho 2-29.

Hotel 28 Hiroshima

Refused in principle, with one seal as the exception: if a single 8-by-10-centimeter cover sheet hides the tattoo, the rule does not apply to you. The hotel says plainly that it does not supply the seal, so bring it. One sheet is the tightest allowance of any Hiroshima hotel in this file.

Best for: One small tattoo you can hide under a single sheet, in the middle of the Nagarekawa bar streets

Bath 17:00 to 24:00 and 06:00 to 09:00; the sauna runs only in the evening block. The page names no spring and no floor. Operated under the Breezbay group.

Allowed, but the cover here is clothing rather than tape: the operator admits tattooed guests as long as a rash guard or similar hides the tattoo completely. That is a stricter cover than a hotel seal, because it has to cover the whole body, and it is the operator’s own wording.

Best for: Bringing a rash guard and booking a two-hour slot with a deep cold bath

A hybrid house with both a wood-fired and an electric stove. Sessions run two hours and are reserved, with walk-ins taken when there is room. 2,000 yen a head on weekdays, 2,500 yen at weekends and holidays, and a 1,500 yen ladies’ day on Tuesday. Open 13:00 to 23:00 on weekdays and holidays and 09:00 to 23:00 at weekends. The cold bath runs at 16°C, is about 90 centimeters deep and takes about five people. Twenty people in the house at a time.

Makoto no Hinoki-yu

湯来温泉湯元貸切露天風呂 誠の桧湯

You bathe alone, so no tattoo rule applies. The whole facility is one open-air cypress tub rented by the hour: you pick up a key, walk three minutes from the reception center and lock the gate behind you. Nobody else is in the water with you and the operator publishes no tattoo restriction.

Best for: A cypress tub of source-fed water with the door locked and up to six people

4,000 yen for a 60-minute slot, up to six bathers, six slots a day at 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30, with the last one bookable a month ahead. Pay and collect the key at the Hiroshima City Yuki Exchange Experience Center next to Yuki Lodge, one minute by car or three on foot. Bring towels; only the biodegradable soap provided may be used, to protect the river. Online booking takes cards only, same-day booking by phone only, and the tub needs about two hours to fill. Run by the NPO Yuki tourism association, which rebuilt the bath after nineteen years using cypress cut in Yuki-cho.

There is one room and you rent all of it, with a shower room of your own inside. No tattoo rule is published and none is needed: nobody else is in the room. Do not read the silence as a statement about shared bathing, because there is no shared bath here at all.

Best for: A locked room to yourself, or for two, at any hour of the night

A single room, so you meet nobody. Open 24 hours, every day. One person pays 1,800 to 2,400 yen for 60 minutes, two pay 3,000 to 3,800, and 30 more minutes costs 1,000. The sauna tops out at 65°C, gentler than most. Sauna hats, wear, towels, toiletries, a dryer, a Bluetooth speaker and drinks are included. Mixed pairs are allowed.
