Hotel Hana Isawa

Seal it and you can use the shared baths. The hotel turns away tattooed bathers in general, then makes an exception in the next sentence: a tattoo fully hidden under a cover seal of 20 cm or less may bathe. Anything bigger goes to the barrier-free family bath, which staying guests use free for 50 minutes, booked at check-in.

Best for: A small tattoo and a seal, or a free family bath if the tattoo is too big to cover

The hotel does not say it sells seals, so bring your own. The family bath takes the first nine groups each day, 14:00–23:00, 50 minutes each; it has no step from changing room to bath and a handrail by the tub. The shared baths (two indoor, two open-air) swap sides and run 14:00–02:00 and 04:00–10:00, water from the hotel’s own free-flowing spring. The detached cottage Hanarei has its own open-air bath and takes dogs up to 10 kg; the hotel warns its tub runs cool in winter because the spring is not reheated. Day bathing 1,650 yen with towels. Staying guests can ride a free car to the baths at Isawa View Hotel and a third group hotel on the Kasugai spring, 15:00–18:00 and 20:00–22:00. Check-in 14:00.

Isawa View Hotel

The same rule as its sister hotel Hana Isawa, word for word: no tattoos in the shared baths unless a cover seal of 20 cm or less hides the tattoo completely. With a seal on, both the indoor bath and the garden open-air bath are open to you.

Best for: Covering a small tattoo and bathing beside a waterfall in the garden

One indoor and one open-air bath each for men and women, which do not swap, 15:00–02:00 and 04:00–10:00. The hotel says the women’s open-air bath is unheated, free-flowing spring water that turns too cold to use in winter. No private bath of its own is described. A free beer or grape juice after the bath, 15:00–17:30. Day bathing 1,650 yen with towels. The hotel lists the source at 67.3°C.

Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Shinko

大江戸温泉物語 ホテル新光

Seal only, and it has to be the hotel’s own seal. The hotel page bars tattooed bathers from the large baths unless a paid cover seal it supplies hides the tattoo completely; the group’s bath terms put the limit at what two of those seals can cover. Day visitors are held to the same rule.

Group terms, same wording at every Ooedo property: 入れ墨（タトゥー）をされた方 are refused, ※当館指定のシール2枚で完全に覆うことができる場合を除く. The seal price is not published. Two large baths, Hotei-no-yu and Daikokuten-no-yu, each with a semi-open-air bath and a sauna, swap between men and women; the wine bath is in Hotei-no-yu. 15:00–24:00 and 5:00–10:00. Day bathing 7:00–10:00 and 15:00–24:00 (last entry 22:00), adults 1,080 yen on weekdays, 1,410 at weekends, 1,610 on peak days; towels 330 yen. A foot bath sits in the Japanese garden. Booking.com lists its cheaper rooms with shared bathroom or shower only.

Hotel Fuji

The shared baths are firmly closed to tattoos, and the hotel says where to go instead: its paid private view baths or the bath in your room. The two private baths, Yururi and Burari, are on the top floor of the main building, 45 minutes for 3,850 yen, booked by phone.

Best for: Knowing before you arrive that the hotel has already planned a bath for you

Private view baths 15:00–24:00, starting on the hour, 45 minutes, 3,850 yen; each tub holds about three adults, with three washing spots. Booking is by phone only, not by email. The room page tags several special rooms with a private bath and one with a hot spring view bath, but does not say which room baths are on spring water. Free pickup from Isawa-Onsen Station. The shared baths are a large rock bath, a garden bath and two open-air baths, 14:00–01:00 and 03:00–10:00.

Hanayagi no Sho Keizan

華やぎの章 慶山

Keizan refuses tattoos in its large baths and open-air baths, in writing. What it has in their place is volume: 22 of its 116 rooms come with a private open-air bath, and those rooms are sold as their own room types.

Best for: Picking from more open-air-bath rooms than any other inn in town

Rooms with an open-air bath: 15 Japanese-Western, 2 Japanese, 3 Western, and 2 special rooms that add a sauna. In the Shokyakuden open-air rooms and the Nagomi special room the open-air tub is the only bath. The inn’s own spring, free-flowing; the shared baths swap between men and women and have dry and mist saunas.

Isawa Meitokan Itoyanagi

石和名湯館 糸柳

Itoyanagi’s notices for day bathers and its foot-bath terrace say tattooed people may not bathe, and no exception is given. Its answer for a tattooed guest is the private baths: two big ones under a high open ceiling, Oku-no-yu and Manyo-no-yu, plus the smaller barrier-free Sakura-no-yu, 45 minutes for 3,300 yen and one free turn if you booked on the inn’s site or by phone. Rooms with an open-air bath on the inn’s own spring take the question off the table.

Best for: Booking direct and getting a big private bath included

The quote is from a news post about the free foot-bath terrace, and its sister inn Yuwa posts the same line for day bathers; the inn’s main bath page states no rule. Private baths 15:00–23:45 and 6:00–10:45, starting on the hour. Open-air rooms: a barrier-free 15-mat Western room for three; the Shizuku special floor, Type A about 102 m² with 40 m² of bath and terrace, Type B about 57 m²; and Akaritori-no-yu rooms with spring water indoors. The ryokan association gives its founding as 1879. Staying guests get free draft beer, local wine or grape juice after the bath, 16:00–19:00.

Meiseki no Yado Kagetsu

銘石の宿 かげつ

Kagetsu publishes no tattoo rule. It does promise that the bath in every Japanese-style room is filled with hot spring water, usable 24 hours, so any of those rooms gives you a spring bath nobody else shares. Two room types go further, with an open-air or semi-open-air bath facing the garden.

Best for: A spring-water bath in any Japanese-style room, not just the expensive ones

Room types: Naka-no-den with open-air bath (10 + 6 mats and a sitting room, 2–6 guests), Higashi-den with a hot spring semi-open-air bath and terrace (12 + 6 mats, renovated in 2021), and plain Naka-no-den, Higashi-den, Minami-den and Nishi-den Japanese rooms. The 10-mat and 8-mat Western twins have a toilet but the bath is outside the room, so they do not count. The shared rock baths are open 24 hours with no cleaning break; sauna to 22:00 and from 6:00. Day bathing only as part of a meal plan. Ground-floor rooms can feed the koi in the garden pond.

Meitei no Yado Hotel Koshien

No tattoo rule is published. Half of the sixteen rooms have their own open-air or semi-open-air bath, and there are two private open-air baths for everyone else: Toryu, 40 minutes free, and Ojiro, 1,500 yen for 40 minutes, booked the same day on the tablet you get at check-in.

Best for: A sixteen-room inn where half the rooms have their own open-air bath

Sixteen rooms: seven 10-mat Japanese rooms without a private tub, Tenjin, Tenmoku, Yashajin and Shosenkyo with an open-air bath, the barrier-free Fuefuki with an open-air bath, the Kinpu luxury suite with open-air bath and sauna, Misaka and Akadake suites with a semi-open-air bath, and Motosu with an all-cypress indoor bath. A new room, Fuurin, opened in January 2025 with its own pool, sauna and open-air bath. Private open-air baths 16:00–23:00; a third private bath, Mizugaki, is closed for works. The inn also has private rock-sauna rooms and two private saunas. Shared baths 15:00–24:00 and 6:00–9:30.

Hotel Sekifu

Sekifu says nothing about tattoos. Several room types come with a spring bath of their own: in the garden-side M type it is a private bath reserved for that room, which opened in December 2022, and other types have a semi-open-air bath or an indoor family bath in the suite.

Best for: Western-style rooms with William Morris wallpaper and a spring bath of their own

Room types with their own bath: garden-side M type with a private bath for the room (the room itself has a shower only), M type with semi-open-air bath, M suite with an indoor family bath and massage chair, and M suite with semi-open-air bath and massage chair. The hotel uses William Morris wallpaper and carpeted floors in these rooms. Fifteen minutes on foot from Isawa-Onsen Station.

Chateraise Hotel Ryokan Fujinoya

シャトレーゼホテル 旅館 富士野屋

Fujinoya publishes no tattoo rule of its own. Every room bath runs on free-flowing natural hot spring water, shower included, which the inn points out is unusual. The annex roof has two private open-air baths, Hinoki-no-yu for up to four and Tenku-no-yu for up to six, 40 minutes at 1,000 yen per adult for staying guests.

Best for: A spring-water bath in the room, down to the shower

Its sister, Chateraise Hotel Isawa across town, answers in its FAQ that tattooed guests may not use the hot springs; Fujinoya’s own pages carry no such line, but ask when you book. The main building has a Japanese room with a hot spring open-air bath; its corner room looks south over the Fuefuki river toward the top of Mount Fuji, per the inn. Rooftop private baths are booked ahead, 2,000 yen per adult for visitors. Shared baths Happo-no-yu and Utakata-no-yu each have an open-air bath and swap at 20:00 and 24:00.

Wajoen, Itoyanagi annex

Wajoen publishes no tattoo rule. Every room on its room page has its own open-air bath, several in detached wings, so staying here means never needing the shared bath.

Best for: A detached room with an open-air bath of your own

Rooms include Kinpu, Fuefuki and Oshuku as detached wings, Togen and Kaikoma with a wooden deck bath, Kentoku for two, and a two-floor maisonette with the open-air bath and a lounge downstairs and the bedroom upstairs; most hold up to four. The inn runs its spring water through an activated-stone filtering and heating system for the ground-floor room baths and the shared baths, and calls the result 活性石温泉; it is not described as free-flowing.

Itoyanagi Koyado Yuwa

糸柳こやど ゆわ

Yuwa’s day-bathing notice turns away tattooed bathers from its large baths. Staying guests have three private baths free for 45 minutes each, one of them a room that used to be a large bath, and a few special rooms have an open-air bath of their own.

Best for: Three free private baths to rotate through during one stay

The private baths are for staying guests only; day visitors cannot book them. Special rooms with an open-air bath are on a floor without an elevator. The shared baths, Ao-no-yu and Mizuki-no-yu, each have an open-air bath and use alkaline spring water run through activated stone. Free colored yukata. Agoda’s URL and OpenStreetMap still use the name Kutsurogi no Tei Kunitachi, which also appears on the inn’s own day-bathing notice.

Yumeguri Yado Fuefukigawa

湯めぐり宿 笛吹川

Fuefukigawa has no published tattoo rule and five private baths: three open-air, in granite, cypress and ceramic, and two indoor ones added in April 2021. The bath page does not give a price or booking method, so ask when you reserve.

Best for: Working through five private baths on water no heater ever touches

The spring on the grounds, Fuefuki-no-yu, was drilled in 1963 by the founder. The inn says it has no heating equipment at all and adjusts the water to bathing temperature by hand with 38 valves, a job passed down only to the head of the family for three generations. Private open-air baths: Hanamitate-no-yu (granite), Shikisai-no-yu (cypress), Toro-no-yu (ceramic, old farmhouse style). Private indoor baths: Mizumari-no-yu and Gessei-no-yu. The shared bath runs 24 hours. There is a guests-only lounge floor by the baths.

Isawa Onsen Ryokan Kisen

石和温泉 旅館 喜仙

Kisen publishes nothing on tattoos. Its private bath, Hoyu, holds seven or eight people and costs 3,300 yen for 50 minutes, booked ahead.

Best for: A group that wants one large bath to itself

The inn says Hoyu is the bathroom it actually used when the Isawa spring first came up in 1961, brought back into service; the name is read as a pun on “for you.” Sunlit by day. The ryokan association lists the inn with rooms that have a hot spring bath, but the inn’s own room page was not found to confirm it, so book the private bath.

Hotel Sekitei

Sekitei says nothing about tattoos. On the roof of the main building is an all-cypress private open-air bath with a view, 3,000 yen before tax for 40 minutes, reserved ahead.

Best for: A rooftop cypress bath on a budget room rate

The shared view bath and open-air bath are open 24 hours and swap between men and women. The hotel calls its water free-flowing. Main-building rooms have no bath or shower of their own; new-building rooms have a bath and shower.

Hotel Hatta

美と健康と癒しの宿 ホテル八田

Hotel Hatta publishes no tattoo rule. Its FAQ says the room baths are fed from the spring like the shared ones. The men’s wine bath turns into a private bath from 15:00 to 21:00, big enough for ten, 45 minutes for 3,300 yen, six groups a day, booked ahead and paid at the hotel.

Best for: A private wine bath for a group of up to ten

Water: alkaline simple spring at pH 9, piped direct from the source to the shared baths, open-air baths and room baths, per the FAQ. Private wine bath last slot starts 20:00 and ends 20:45. Day bathing 13:00–17:00 for 90 minutes, 1,100 yen with a face towel. Free parking with two EV chargers.

Isawa Tokiwa Hotel

石和常磐ホテル

The hotel publishes no tattoo rule. In December 2024 it opened a private bath on free-flowing spring water, 3,300 yen for 40 minutes, last entry 23:00 at night and 10:00 in the morning.

Best for: A late private bath: the last booking starts at 23:00

Private bath 15:00–23:00 and 6:00–10:00, last entries. All rooms non-smoking, with a fine for smoking in them. The ryokan association lists rooms with a hot spring bath, but that was not confirmed on the hotel’s own room pages.

Nagomi-no-yu, Isawa Fureai Center

いさわふれあいセンター なごみの湯

Neither the city nor the council that runs it publishes a tattoo rule for the large bath. What it does have is a family bath you can book by the room: two hours for 4,000 yen if you live outside Fuefuki, on 100% free-flowing spring water, one person or a group. That makes it a day bath a tattooed visitor can use without asking anyone about the shared water.

Best for: A two-hour private soak on a day trip, with no hotel booking

Reopened 1 October 2025 after renovation. Family bath: four slots a day, 10:00–12:00, 13:00–15:00, 16:00–18:00 and 19:00–21:00, booked by phone up to three months ahead; 2,300 yen for Fuefuki residents (ID checked), 4,000 for everyone else; the large bath costs extra. Up to four adults, or two adults and three children; no minors alone. Food and drink may be brought in. Filling the tub takes an hour, so a walk-in waits. Large bath 10:00–21:00, last entry 20:30, closed Wednesdays (Thursday after a holiday) and 31 Dec–1 Jan; 800 yen for non-residents. The council notes infants in diapers may use the family bath but not the large bath.
