Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Kaike

大江戸温泉物語 かいけ

The group rule applies here as it does at the group’s Misasa house: the large bath is closed to a tattooed bather unless the hotel’s own cover seal, sold on site, hides the tattoo completely. Partial cover is not enough, and the seal has to be the hotel’s. This is the one seal option on the Kaike strip, where every other written rule is a flat refusal.

Best for: A tattoo small enough for one seal, at day-use prices on the seafront

The same block says entry can be refused when the baths are busy. Day-use runs 15:00 to 24:00 with last entry at 22:00, and a dinner-buffet-plus-bath plan needs booking ahead. Towels rent for ¥330.

Kasuitei

皆生温泉 華水亭

Kasuitei publishes no tattoo rule, so its large baths are an unanswered question. The annex settles it by construction. Yuhinkan opened in 2002 with a private open-air bath in every room, which the house puts in its own page title. Four reservable baths back that up, three of them open-air and one indoors, sold in 50-minute turns at ¥2,200 and claimed on the day after check-in.

Best for: A tattooed traveler who wants the Sea of Japan from a private tub on their own balcony

The house is two buildings: Kasuikan, the 1989 resort wing, and Yuhinkan, the 2002 annex built for couples and small parties with a bath in every room. The spring is the hotel’s own, which it calls Hoshou-no-izumi. Guests staying at the sister hotel Tensui walk over to use these reservable baths.

Kaike Grand Hotel Tensui

皆生グランドホテル天水

Tensui says nothing about tattoos, so its view bath and open-air bath are unanswered. It is also honest that it has no reservable bath of its own. Its FAQ sends guests next door to Kasuitei, where three open-air baths and one indoor bath can be taken for 50 minutes at ¥2,200, booked on the day after check-in. That is the only private water a Tensui guest gets, and it takes a short walk to reach.

Best for: A tattooed guest who wants a big-hotel price and will walk next door for a private tub

The shared baths run 6:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00 and never swap between men and women, so the bath you see on arrival is the one you get. A sauna is attached to the large bath, with no cold plunge. The hotel moved its breakfast to a buffet in July 2026.

Kaichoen

海潮園

Kaichoen publishes no tattoo rule, leaving its two shared baths unanswered. Its reservable family bath is free, which is unusual anywhere, and it runs on the same undiluted 73.5°C source as the rest of the house. There is no advance booking: you ask for a time at the front desk after checking in. Day visitors are told plainly that the family bath is not theirs to use.

Best for: A tattooed guest who does not want to pay extra for privacy

The rock open-air bath dates from the Taisho era and the inn says it is the oldest still standing in Kaike. A second bath, Sangoyu, uses a large piece of coral a previous owner’s trawler brought up off Hagi as its spout. The family bath keeps a baby tub and the inn lends a Bumbo seat. Dogs are taken in designated rooms under a separate set of terms.

Kaike Tsuruya

皆生つるや

Tsuruya prints a refusal, and where it prints it matters. The notice sits in the block describing the large bath and its changing rooms, and again in the block on day-use bathing. It covers fashion tattoos, traditional work and stick-ons alike. The two reservable baths, Sarasa-no-yu and Nagomi-no-yu, are described further down the same page with no such notice, and day visitors may book them. Read the shared baths as closed and the reservable ones as the route, and confirm with the desk when you book.

Best for: A day visitor who can book a private hour rather than argue at the front desk

The reservable baths are source flow and take up to four people: ¥5,000 for 60 minutes, ¥7,500 for 90, and ¥3,300 in the 12:00 to 15:00 window. They run 6:00 to 9:00 and 12:00 to 23:00, and people not staying the night can reserve them. Plain day-use of the large bath costs ¥1,100 and rises to ¥1,200 for adults on 1 October 2026.

Kaike Shogetsu

皆生松月

Shogetsu refuses tattoos at the large bath and, in the same breath, names the two places a tattooed guest may bathe: a room with its own tub, or one of the reservable baths. Those baths sit in a separate building away from the main house, four of them, all on natural spring water, taken 45 minutes at a time, first come, with no reservations. An app-free QR code at check-in shows which are free.

Note: Not every room tub is on the spring. The sea-view open-air rooms, the balcony-tub Hollywood Twins and special rooms 301 and 401 are heated ordinary water, and the hotel’s FAQ says which.

Best for: A tattooed guest who wants a choice of four private tubs rather than one

The four are a barrel tub, a rock bath, a garden bath and a granite bath; the granite one has a ramped entrance and a wide changing room for wheelchair users. The reservable baths are for overnight guests only, 6:30 to 8:00 and 15:00 to 22:00 by last start. On the rooms: the FAQ says the tubs in the Twin Bed Modern Japanese rooms and the Cabana rooms carry spring water, while the sea-view open-air rooms, the Hollywood Twin rooms with a balcony tub, and special rooms 301 and 401 are heated ordinary water, not onsen. Pick the room type with care if the water itself is the point.

Shotoen

皆生温泉 松涛園

Shotoen publishes no tattoo rule, so its rooftop open-air bath and two large baths are unanswered. Two answers exist in the building anyway. Rooms renovated in February 2022, in both Japanese and Western layouts, have a view bath of their own, and the rooftop reservable open-air bath is let to one party at a time. That bath is set up so a dog can come in with you, which is the whole point of this house.

Best for: Anyone traveling with a dog who also needs a bath away from other guests

The rooftop shared bath, Ozorakai, is open 5:00 to 22:00. Rooms carry dog beds and dog amenities as standard and the inn takes dogs into its dining arrangements. Two large baths, Kinpa and Ginpa, round out the water.

Yado Shiontei

やど紫苑亭

There is no tattoo rule here because there is nothing shared to make a rule about. Shiontei sells ten rooms a night and every one of them has a source-flow bath, open-air or indoor, that the room’s own guests use whenever they like. A separate open-air reservable bath is let to one party a day for a fee. Premium suites Soukyu and Kasho carry half-open-air tubs usable around the clock.

Best for: A tattooed traveler who wants the question to be irrelevant for the whole stay

The house caps itself at ten rooms in two layouts and calls the arrangement “my own hot spring”. Because there is no large bath, nothing here is sold to day visitors. This is the most expensive address in Kaike.
