A kashikiri, sometimes listed as a family bath, is a bath you reserve for private use: you book a slot, and for that hour the water is yours. An in-room bath is the same idea without the clock. Either way you are not sharing the water, so the rule written for the communal bath does not reach you.
This is the most reliable route for a large or a full-body tattoo, and the only one that works at a property whose shared baths refuse tattoos outright. What to check is availability rather than policy — private baths are often bookable only at check-in, and at a busy ryokan they go quickly.
